BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Auburn fans are happy and relieved Cam Newton is allowed to play in the SEC Championship game.
The NCAA ruled Wednesday that Newton's father broke rules by shopping his son, but Newton is still eligible to play.
When the news was publicized, the phone lines rang at WJOX on the Paul Finebaum Radio Network. Most callers said they doubted the allegations against Newton from the beginning. They feel the truth has come out.
Said a caller, "I think it's over unless the FBI comes up with something. To all the Auburn people who are worried, it's over."
Other fans celebrated by buying SEC Championship game T-shirts at Bama Fever Tiger Pride in Hoover. Fans say now they are hoping the team can put this behind them and focus on the upcoming game against South Carolina.
"I think the pressure is off Cam, and I think we will have a better ball game," said Ray Jimerson, "It will be interesting to see what the 'ole ball coach has in store for Auburn Saturday. I think it will be an exciting game."
"This is great news," said Tracy Causey. "I felt he was clear all along, but this is exciting. It's good news for Auburn."
Auburn plays South Carolina in the SEC Championship in Atlanta's Georgia Dome Saturday at 3pm.
