PELL CITY (WBRC) - Former Pell City Mayor Adam Stocks is without a home after a fire ravaged his home off Mimosa Row. Luckily neither Stocks, nor his wife, or five children were at home Monday afternoon when the fire broke out.
Less than a month before Christmas the family is now picking up the pieces.
"It is awful," said one of Stocks' colleagues, John Simpson, who's the general manager at the radio station Stocks owns. "If anybody would have been there, it would've been rough."
The phone lines at WFHK, 1430 AM were lighting up due to the tragedy.
"A hundred calls. What can I do, what size clothes do the kids wear, do they need money, where are they going to stay," Simpson said.
Loyal listeners like Vicki Crumpton stopped by the station to bring clothes for Adam and his family. Crumpton doesn't even know the Stocks, but says she just wanted to help.
"It's a bad time anytime of the year," Crumpton said. "But especially during Christmas and I just want to help the family anyway I can."
Adam, overcome with emotions and thoughts didn't want to talk on camera. He said he's overwhelmed by the response from the community, telling everyone "Thank You."
A fund has been set up at any Metro Bank if for anyone who would like to make donations.
