Hoover looks to fill vacancies at Patton Creek and Galleria

HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - By Emily Luxen

HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - Hoover works to fill empty retail spaces throughout the city.
Patton Creek has several empty spaces and Bromberg's announced its departure from Riverchase Galleria.

Hoover Mayor Tony Petelos said he is concerned about the situation, but he is more optimistic after a busy Black Friday weekend.

"I'm encouraged because the last several months the numbers have been going up slightly," said Mayor Petelos. "We are encouraged the numbers will continue to go up."

Petelos said he is also encouraged by how quickly the city has filled some of the departing big box retailers in Patton Creek with successful new stores like Buy Buy Baby.

"If you have a strong base, and if you have strong big tenants, the smaller tenants will come," said the mayor.

Shoppers said they still like the stores Patton Creek offer and they will keep coming back.

"I really enjoy shopping here," said Lindsey Colvin. "Even though there are stores that have closed, it still has most of my favorite stores, and I love the restaurants."

Petelos didn't discuss specifics of any projects in the works to fill empty spaces, but did say the city is still considering putting a convention center into the old Macy's space at the Galleria. He is hopeful more new stores will come as well.
