Grocery shoppers getting ready for Thanksgiving

By Alan Collins

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL (WBRC) - The clock is counting down to Thanksgiving. Grocery stores are seeing last minute shoppers for the big meal.

"I try to tell you. I know  that is right.. All those shopping late. You are in long lines." Marshall Preston, a shopper said.

The Mountain Brook Piggly Wiggly was busy Tuesday.  Turkeys could be found and cranberry sauce was still on the shelves. One shopper said she has been shopping for the last week getting ready to cook for her family.  Pat Kilpatrick says she raised three sons who still count on mom to have a fresh cook turkey on the table.

"There is something about the smell of  the turkey cooking in the house and the excitement of your family in anticipation around the table with all the things we wanted to be cook," Pat Kilpatrick said.

In the deli, workers were preparing dressing for 55 to 60 people who had ordered pre-cooked turkeys.  Cindy Screven has been picking up Thanksgiving meals for five years.

"It much more fun to be with the family and the this way you know it comes out right. I had raw turkeys. I've had baked biscuits on top and raw on the bottom. This is fool proof," Cindy Screven said.

More pickups were scheduled to take place Wednesday. The store manager urges everyone to be patient.

"We have workers getting them out, getting the orders together." Frank Campbell, PIggly Wiggly Store Manager said.

Shoppers will tell you it's hectic buying a turkey and getting it ready for the big meal, but they will also tell you it's worth it once it's on the table with the family.

"Oh, yes, and you pray some one will do the dishes instead of me," Kilpatrick said.
