COLUMBIANA, AL (WBRC) - An Inverness man has been found "guilty" of the murder of a young relative. The jury convicted Ryan Russell for the murder of 11-year-old Catherine Gillespie.
Russell was Gillespie's legal guardian and she lived with him at his house in Inverness. Gillespie's body was found in a garbage can at the home in 2008.
A forensic specialist told jurors that the girl's wound came from a gun held directly to her head.
Russell's defense tried to prove that he did not intentionally shoot the girl.
The sentencing date has not yet been set.
