OHATCHEE, AL (WBRC) - An Ohatchee plant will close next year, taking some 76 jobs with it.
American Firewear is owned by Honeywell, which told workers last week its product lines would be consolidated with the plant in Dayton, Ohio.
Honeywell spokesman, Mark Hamel, tells Fox6 News the layoffs will occur in three phases. The first will begin in February, and the most will take place in June 2011. Hamel says employees will be offered severance pay.
Hamel says the company closed the plant to "improve our efficiency and stay competitive," and said it was no reflection on the work ethic of the Ohatchee employees or the quality of products that came out of that plant.
