Birmingham Zoo gets new giraffe

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – The Birmingham Zoo has announced the newest member of its giraffe herd.

Edward the giraffe is an 18-month-old male giraffe who arrived at the zoo from Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield Missouri on September 8th. Currently, he is 11 feet tall and weighs over 1000 pounds.

After a standard quarantine period and an introduction to the herd, Edward was put on exhibit in the Savannah area of the zoo.

"Edward is getting used to his new surroundings and his personality is just beginning to emerge. I predict his personality will be a nice middle ground between Jalil and diva Willow," says Africa Keeper and Giraffe Trainer, Laura Schillinger.
