JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - It is a fresh beginning for the Jefferson County Commission as five new commissioners took the oath of office on Wednesday morning.
The five new members are: George Bowman, Jimmie Stephens, Sandra Little Brown, Joe Knight and David Carrington.
Bowman is the only face who is not completely new; he was elected to fill a partial term, and then won a full term in the November second election. All of the other commissioners are new, winning their job by defeating an incumbent or running for an open seat.
On Wednesday, the new commissioners were very upbeat and displayed confidence, despite the overwhelming amount of troubles that await them, like the $3 billion sewer crisis and the new challenge to the county's occupational tax.
So far, the commissioners say they plan to work together to face the county's issues. Some of the commissioners have even mentioned plans on what to do if they do lose the occupational tax.
The new commission will start their tenures with electing officers and setting up the rules for running the county government.
