Pelham residents return to homes after gas leak scare

PELHAM, AL (WBRC) - Pelham residents are back in their homes after a natural gas leak forced many out of their homes Monday. It happened around 5:00 p.m. off Stonebridge Circle.

Pelham firefighters detected a high gas level in the sewer system in one home. They evacuated people in 22 homes. No one was hurt. They were able to return to their homes around 10:00 p.m.

Police also blocked off two nearby streets and initially residents living on those streets could not go home either.

Pelham police officers and firefighters were able to contain the leak. The cause is still unknown.
