BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – On Monday, the BJCC Board approved a financing agreement with the city of Birmingham to build a $70 million Westin Hotel near the BJCC.
Under the new agreement, Birmingham will be responsible for the financing of the project. The money is expected to come from the city's occupational tax and lodging tax.
Birmingham Mayor William Bell says he see this as the last major step before building the facility. The mayor adds that he feels the hotel will be a major boost to the money brought to Birmingham by conventions.
The project is expected to take 18 months to complete.
