Collinsville man charged with forging payroll checks

GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) - A Collinsville man has been arrested and charged with forging payroll checks.

Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin, in a statement Friday to FOX6 News, said Michael Cleve Johnson, 43, of Collinsville, was arrested and charged with four counts of possession of a forged instrument. Johnson was apprehended Monday at a beverage store on Highway 11 when he attempted to pass a forged payroll check.

Investigators said he passed another forged check at the store in October.

Sheriff Entrekin said during the course of the investigation they discovered Johnson had cashed a payroll check at another local beverage store on Highway 11, along with other stores in Blount, Cullman, DeKalb, Marshal and Etowah counties.

Investigators with the Etowah County Sheriff's Office are working with surrounding agencies to determine all of the locations where forged checks had been cashed.

Johnson was being held Friday in the Etowah County Detention Center.
