Man charged in Forestdale Jet Pep murder

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A man has been arrested in connection with the September murder of a clerk at the Jet Pep in Forestdale.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, in a statement Friday to FOX6 News, said Willie Deon Brown, Jr., 29, was arrested Thursday and charged with capital murder in the death of Saumil "Don" Patel.  Patel was killed September 12 during a robbery of the Jet Pep on Highway 78 in Forestdale.

Sheriff's detectives obtained a felony warrant for Capital Murder with no bond earlier this week and around noon Thursday, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshal's task force arrested Brown at the Chevron station located in the 6400 Block of 1st Avenue North in Birmingham.

Investigators said multiple tips and information from citizens led them to Brown.

"There was a real public outcry when this senseless cold blooded murder occurred," stated Sheriff Mike Hale. "The people in that area that knew and loved the victim would not rest until justice was served. I
am very proud of the work done by our detectives and the help from the Birmingham Police but credit goes to our citizens and their determination to help us solve this case."
