MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) – Representatives from Trinity Medical Center have acquired the Certificate of Need paper for the new hospital on Highway 280.
The paperwork was given to the representatives by the Executive Director of the State Health Planning & Development Agency on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m.
Trinity plans to move to the former HealthSouth Digital Hospital on Highway 280. The move was opposed by other local hospitals, Brookwood and St. Vincent's, but the Certificate of Need Board ruled in favor of the move and refused to reconsider in a later hearing. There is no word on whether Brookwood or St. Vincent's plan to take their opposition any further.
The new hospital is expected to create several new jobs in construction and have a strong economic impact for the area. The city of Birmingham has already expressed support for the project.
