Election Day could bring big changes to Alabama

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - It is Election Day in Alabama and across the country. Many of today's races are pivotal.

The results could mean a new governor for Alabama and a shift in the balance of power at the State House.

The two gubernatorial candidates took to the skies in a last-minute statewide push to win over voters on Monday. Ron Sparks and Robert Bentley both came to Birmingham to encourage voters to get to the polls. Bentley says creating jobs and ethics reform remain his top priorities. Sparks continues to push an educational lottery and he also kept up his attack on his Republican opponent.

Between now and the time polls close, later today, Sparks and Bentley will do what they can with phone calls and other messages to get their supporters out. Both men remain confident. Most polls have Bentley with a lead, but Sparks is calling the race a dead heat.

Many voters say they are ready to see change in Montgomery and are excited to vote. Others say they will be glad when the race is over because of the aggressive mud-slinging this election.
