Pastor of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church resigns

BIRMINGHAM,AL (WBRC) - The pastor of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church resigned today. The Church accepted the resignation of Reverend Al B. Sutton Jr. who has served as pastor since August 2000. He was hired to replace Reverend John T. Porter who had served at the church 38 years, including throught the civil rights movement of the 1960's. Alfred Morton, chairman of the board of deacons said the church will form a search committee to find a new pastor for the church. Sixth Avenue Baptist Church was founded nearly 130 year ago and is one of Birmingham's largest black congregations.
