Birmingham man surrenders, charged with murder

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A Birmingham man surrendered Tuesday morning in connection with the shooting death of another Birmingham man.

Birmingham Police, in a statement Tuesday to FOX6 News, said William Lee, 55, had been charged with murder and felony assault in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Donnie Ratcliff.  Ratcliff died Sunday from injuries he sustained in a shooting on Saturday.

The incident began on Friday at 42nd Place and Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard.  At about 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of a male and female shot. They found both victims at the scene. The female was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg. The male was shot in the head and died on Sunday.

Police said Lee turned himself in to the Jefferson County Jail at 12:22 a.m. Tuesday. He was being held in the jail on $105,000 bond.
