DECATUR, AL (WBRC) - General Electric has chosen Alabama as one of four sites to build a $432-million plant. The factory would make a new energy efficient line of refrigerators and other appliances.
An existing General Electric location in Decatur was picked along with three others to be a refrigeration design and manufacturing center.
GE says the move will create 500 new jobs by 2014 and help preserve another 1,166 existing positions.
GE said its investment is an effort to revitalize its appliance business and take advantage of the increasing global competitiveness of U.S. factories.
