Intruders disrupt school in Irondale

IRONDALE, AL (WBRC) - Two people caused a security scare at Shades Valley High School.

The principal of the school, Jane Baker, says on Wednesday two males intruders entered the school causing some kind of incident in a restroom.

Baker says the men drove away before the school resource officer could question them.
She says contrary to what one parent tells FOX6, the intruders did not cause a brawl at the school.

Principal Jane Baker says, "Things get embellished. Stuff happening at school is always a hot topic especially about school safety issues. We have a very safe school."

Parents say it's scary to think about what could have happened.

Blake Wood says, "Anything could have happened they could have come in with guns could of taken out teachers students."

"A school principal's worst nightmare is to have an intruder in the building and you have an incident with students who are injured," said Baker. "That's something you never want to have."

The intruders were caught on surveillance video and Principal Baker says she has some possible names of the men.

Preventing a similar incident is important to parents. The school's principal says it does highlight the need to always find ways to improve security.

Wednesday's security breech comes just days before school officials were to meet to review the school's safety plan, including a look at the lock down procedure.
