JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Some Jefferson County workers are worried about getting their paychecks. On Thursday, some workers did not see their checks put into their direct deposit accounts.
Commission President Bettye Fine Collins blasted County Treasurer Jennifer Parsons Champion for not following a court order to put $12-million into county coffers to cover those checks. "Had those funds not been transferred this morning, we would have been unable to meet payroll," said Collins. "Now if we had been unable to meet payroll, everybody would have had to go home."
"These funds have not been upheld, the monies are there and the checks are good," said Champion on the issue.
A Jefferson County judge earlier ordered Champion to transfer money to the county to cover county operations. Champion says she still wants an explanation for county expenditures.
Champion's attorneys have asked the Alabama Supreme Court to overturn the lower court ruling.
