Man arrested for cooking meth at 2 a.m.

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A man was arrested early Thursday morning after deputies discovered three active meth labs at a home in northern Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, in a statement Thursday morning to FOX6 News, said Michael John Williams, 48, was arrested after deputies found him cooking methamphetamines at a home in the 3500 block of Railroad Drive off of Coalburg Road.

Deputies went to the home at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday after they received information that methamphetamine  was being "cooked" at the house. When they arrived, they said they found drug paraphernalia lying around the house, a woman hiding in the bathroom with methamphetamine, and two other women. One of the women told deputies Williams was "cooking" meth out behind the house.  Deputies investigated and found three active meth labs and debris from previous meth labs dumped in an abandoned mine shaft on the property.

Investigators said Williams was arrested for unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance and taken the Jefferson County Jail. He was being held on $500,000 bond. Deputies said no one else had been charged.
