Fire deaths now ruled a homicide

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – The Birmingham Police Department has classified the case of two people found dead in a house fire as a homicide.

Birmingham firefighters were called at approximately 2:45 p.m. Wednesday to the 3600 block of Laurel Avenue SW.  The owner of the home called 911 after arriving at the home and seeing the fire.

After putting out the fire, firefighters discovered the bodies of two men in a back room. Authorities said one of the men was a renter and the other was possibly a visitor.

Birmingham police personnel, with help from Birmingham Fire and Rescue, located evidence that led detectives to believe the case is a homicide. Investigators say one of the men had been stabbed and both bodies had been wrapped in rugs.

The identities of the men have not yet been released and there is no suspect information at this time.

If there is anyone who has information pertaining to the case, they are encouraged to contact the B.P.D. Homicide Unit @ 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers @ 254-7777.
