Jeffco Commission to proceed with county home sale

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - The Jefferson County Commission voted for first time to proceed with the sale of the county-owned nursing home on Tuesday.

Commissioner George Bowman, who oversees the nursing home, continued to oppose the sale

Commission President Bettye Fine Collins says the Jefferson County Rehabilitation and Health Center is costing the county $4 million a year out of taxpayers' money.

The com voted to proceed with asking again for request for proposals until November 30th. So far, only one proposal has been submitted.

The new commissioners to be voted into office will decide who gets to buy the county home.
