'Attempted murder' added to convicted murderer's charges

BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) - More charges have been added for a man convicted in a quadruple murder in Hueytown. Scott Lamar Abbott now faces attempted murder charges.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department says Abbott made an unprovoked attack on a deputy, sending him to the hospital. The deputy had to have staples in his scalp, but is otherwise okay.

On Friday, Abbott was convicted of capital murder in the deaths of four people in Hueytown. His lawyer says Abbott is mentally disturbed.
