UAB's Red Cross Club promotes fire safety at site of loss

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Just weeks after a devastating fire claimed the life of a mother and her two small children, UAB's Red Cross Club visited the apartment complex where it all happened.

25-year-old Claudia Dukes, her 8-year-old son Jordan Dukes and her three-year-old daughter Jakayla Gamble all died in the September fire at the Beacon View Apartments.

Volunteers left door hangers promoting fire safety and prevention month. The goal is to equip residents with information that will help prevent fires and keep families safe in the event of an emergency.

The Red Cross says one of the most important things a family can do is have an escape plan in place in case of a fire.
