Man thrown in trunk before robbers take his property

CENTER POINT, AL (WBRC) - By Melanie Posey

CENTER POINT, AL (WBRC) - At 3pm Tuesday, a 73-year-old  man says he was sitting in his garage, reading magazines when all of a sudden a stranger approached.  "I think he said he was doing some kind of report to find out how many people lived and worked in the house, what were their ages, that kind of stuff," the man recalled.

He says the stranger was in his 30s or 40s, wore a reflective vest and dark pants...similar to what a trash worker may wear.  He says at one point, the man walked away, then a minute later, he returned.  "And the next thing I know, he had a pistol in my face and said, 'Get on the floor.  Get down there right now.' It took me a little to react to that because I thought he was just kidding.  But a third warning let him know it was no joke."

The suspect then robbed him of his wallet and keys.

"The next thing I can remember is he said, 'Get in the trunk.'  I said 'What?' He said, 'Get in the trunk.'  I figured that was it. This was my last day."

He says for what seemed like 30 to 45 minutes, he heard two men rummaging through his home. They stole his computer and television.  Then, just before driving away, the suspects decided to let the man go.

The man says he then went upstairs and found his wife asleep. She had not been harmed.  "I don't know why it happened," the man said. "And why'd I make it out alive?  I don't think about that because I'm so happy to be here. I don't dwell on that part. I'm here. "

Authorities are still searching for two suspects.
