So far, so good as people enjoy Birmingham's new park

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - By Sherea Harris

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - When Birmingham's Railroad Park opened, its organizers hoped it would become a major attraction for people to enjoy downtown. So far it looks like their wish came true.

Almost three weeks later, people are still filling the park, even in the middle of the week.

The word is out about the new park. And it seems to be something that people wanted in Birmingham. Late Wednesday afternoon, there were a lot of people there doing all kinds of things. There were folks having a picnic, people walking their pets, and children playing. There was also a yoga class.

One woman says it doesn't seem like Birmingham. It's like another major city.

It's helping draw more people to downtown and they are happy to see new development like this in the city.

Aleta Sanders said, "I think it's in a great location. A wonderful place to walk and exercise."

Andy Feingold said, "This is our first trip here we are enjoying its nicely put together."

Shirley Sanders said, "This is my second day coming out. I've enjoyed it. It's a beautiful place. I love being here. Of course, I think it's what Birmingham needs."

There are some businesses across from the park. The owner of Crossfit Rebellion, a personal training business, says there are hundreds of people at the park everyday and it's helped him gain some new clients.

You can expect some exciting things at the park. There is a movie showing from 7pm to 9pm Thursday.

On Sunday, October 24th, there will be live music at an event called "Jazz in the Park."
