Jeffco Sheriff’s deputies report boarding home for safety and health issues

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – A Jefferson County boarding home is under investigation after Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies say they found "deplorable conditions" inside.

On Friday morning, Birmingham police officers were called to check on the welfare of a woman who was found walking on a busy street. Since the boarding home is located out of the Birmingham police jurisdiction, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies were called on to return the woman.

When the deputies arrived at the boarding home, located at 2263 19th Street Southwest in Ishkooda, they say they found exposed wires, spoiled food and possibly unsafe floors.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office says there were no abuse or neglect issues, but there are safety and health issues. The Jefferson County Health Department and DHR have been called in to investigate the concerns.

The investigation into the boarding home is ongoing.
