Capital murder suspect commits suicide

JASPER, AL (WBRC) - The Walker County Sheriff's Office says Michael Sherer committed suicide.

Tuesday while in the Walker County Jail, Sherer hung himself. He was rushed to Walker County Baptist Medical Center for treatment. He died later that day.

Sherer was accused of escaping custody in Winston County before heading to Walker County, where he was accused of killing his uncle, Thomas Smith.

He was apprehended in Georgia at a pawn shop trying to exchange a gun for NASCAR tickets.
