Birmingham City Council to ponder mayor's proposed lodging tax

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Birmingham City Council will consider Mayor William Bell's proposal to increase the lodging tax.

The 3.5% lodging tax increase would partially pay for a new hotel, baseball stadium complex and a Negro League baseball museum.

Bell told city council members last week a minor league baseball team is interested in moving to Birmingham.
Only three council members were at the meeting, but they did endorse the proposal.
