Thousands of job seekers show for new Leeds center

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Almost 4000 people showed up Friday looking for a job at the new Leeds outlet mall.  The Shops of Grand River will open in October 28th.

The stores are looking to hire about 650 positions.

Job-seekers began lining at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center as early as 4:00am Friday.  And some stores, like Fragrance Outlet, hired applicants right on the spot.  "We want to get the cream of the crop and we're excited about what we've hired," said employee Pam Sullivan.

She says they hired about 14 associates, including Caitlyn Kearns.  "I was just expecting to turn in a few applications," Kearns said with a big smile. "I wasn't expecting anyone to hire me on the spot so it feels really good."

The Retirement Systems of Alabama is providing 100 percent of the funding for the Shops of Grand River.  RSA is the primary lender to Raycom Media, the parent company of FOX6 WBRC.
