ANNISTON, AL (WBRC) - It took a Calhoun County jury all of nine minutes Friday to convict a man of killing a convenience store clerk.
Jess Scheuing was found guilty Friday of capital murder in the November 2008 shooting death of Oxford convenience store clerk Sean Cook. The jury returned its verdict after only nine minutes of deliberations.
Scheuing was convicted of killing Cook during a robbery at the store. During the trial, jurors saw surveillance video of Scheuing engaging Cook in friendly conversation, then shooting Cook in the head and taking the cash drawer.
Jurors also saw a videotape of Scheuing later confessing to the crime to an Iowa investigator.
Monday, jurors will hear evidence on whether they should recommend the death sentence or life in prison without parole.
