BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A man has been arrested in connection with stalking a Jefferson County woman.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, in a statement Wednesday afternoon to FOX6 News, said Spencer Bishop, was arrested Tuesday on stalking charges.
Chief Deputy Randy Christian said the victim, a Jefferson County woman, contacted detectives with the Jefferson County Identity Theft Unit and Computer Forensics unit after Bishop sent numerous text messages to here and, at one point, threatened to hang and kill her.
Detectives said Bishop sent the text messages to the victim in all hours of the day and night and would show up in areas where the victim was, including areas around and near the victim's residence.
Detectives said Monday, after Bishop was featured in a TV broadcast, someone claiming to be Bishop's attorney contacted the sheriff's office and stated that Bishop was out of town and would turn himself in as soon as he returned. However, on Tuesday, Bishop was spotted by a Birmingham Police officer standing across the street from the victim. Bishop was taken into custody and was transported to the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham.
Christian said Bishop posted $15,000 bond on Tuesday.
