BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - By Alan Collins
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Jefferson County commissioners say the county should try to help the Forestdale's firefighters.
Monday, the Forestdale Fire District voted to cut the pay of their firemen by 35% in order to save 15 jobs. The district has a $100,000 debt because some residents are not paying their fire dues.
Commissioners believe they can provide temporary relief.
"We are going to try to find a way to get a remedy for the fire workers, the firefighters. We are going to exhaust everything we have to try to help them," Bowman said.
Commissioner Shelia Smoot says the county has had an influx of money to loan the fire district the money to restore the firefighters pay.
