Komen takes breast cancer battle on the road

By Alan Collins

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Susan G. Komen for the Cure is again taking the Komen on the Go education and outreach program around the country.

Friday at Miles College, students got a chance to seek a big pink trailer on campus. The trailer provides an eight minute video for students to learn more about breast cancer.

The Komen on the Go trailer is scheduled to go to universities and colleges across the country this year, mostly in minority communities. Organizers want to reach young African American and Hispanic women.

"Breast cancer is not something that can happen in your forties and fifties," Melissa Pinkney with Komen on the Go said. "We want them to know they can get breast cancer in their 20's, 30's, and we want to be sure they are getting their mammogram and self exam."

The trailer will be in Tuscaloosa on Monday and hopes to wrap up it's journey in November in San Diego. For more information, visit www.komen.org.
