BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Alabama has seen record heat this summer. But as temperatures start to cool, steep power bills continue to arrive in mailboxes. That's why Alabama Power has established the new "Heat Relief Initiative."
The program is for any one struggling to pay their power bill.
"We understand the struggle," says Hallie Bradley, a spokesperson for Alabama Power. "We know it's been a hard economy and we know it's been such high temperatures this summer, and we're trying to help."
She encourages customers to call the company's customer service line.
"And when possible, our customer service reps can work with them to work out a payment plan," Bradley said.
The company has also given $500K to non-profit agencies like Salvation Army to help them assist families.
Alabama Power also encourages customers to consider budget billing and pay attention to cost saving billboards posted around the city.
