ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WBRC) – The Etowah County Sheriff's Department says they have arrested a man to whom they were trying to a warrant when they became involved in a shooting.
38-year-old Bobby Ray Emery was taken into custody on Thursday morning. Emery was dropped off by a family member and booked into the Etowah County Detention Center.
On Sunday, there deputies attempted to serve the failure to appear warrant to Emery at 1319 Shady Grove Road in Boaz when 55-year-old Anthony Ray Sampson confronted the deputies and pointed a gun at them. Sampson was killed when the deputies opened fire on him. All of the deputies have been cleared of the shooting.
Emery failed to appear for court to face charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and reckless endangerment. His charges stem from an incident where he led deputies on a high speed pursuit into DeKalb County.
