"Be Ready Day" in Birmingham for 1st time

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -  Are you ready for any natural disaster, man-made threat, or emergency that may affect your family?   Helping families get prepared for such was the goal of  "Be Ready Day," held Wednesday at Linn Park.

The event was once called "Community Awareness Day," but this year, the Jefferson County EMA partnered with the Governor's Office to host the event for the first time in Birmingham.

"I hope it does two things," says Jim Walker, Director of Alabama Homeland Security.  "I hope people who are here are inspired by the amount of capable people we have serving them.  And when you look at all the young people here, I hope a handful of them will say, 'I want to be a police officer or firefighter.'"
