Former teacher reaches plea deal over explicit text messages

CULLMAN COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Prosecutors have reached a plea deal with a Cullman County teacher who was accused of sending explicit text messages to a student.

Derrick Lepard changed his plea to not guilty during his trial on Tuesday. In return for the plea on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Lepard will receive probation for two years and will never be able to teach in Alabama again.

Lepard was a teacher at Cold Springs High School.
