MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - A veteran east Alabama senator is dropping his bid for re-election.
Senator Jim Preuitt made headlines in April when he switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party. Now, Preuitt says his heart is just not in the race, and he is no longer seeking a sixth term.
Alabama Republican Party Chairman Mike Hubbard says he will ask the Secretary of State's office about selecting a replacement candidate.
Preuitt serves the 11th Senate District which covers parts of Calhoun, Coosa, Elmore and Talladega counties.
