BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A Jefferson County woman turns to OnStar to help authorities catch three suspected burglars.
The woman, a mother of two, arrived at her house on Greathouse Loop Road and found her home intruded. She says she saw one man entering her home while two others were outside in the car backed under her car port.
As the men departed, she decided to chase the suspects. And in the process, she called "OnStar" for help.
The security service, which is found on GM cars, contacted authorities.
Officials say in a case like this, 9-1-1 would have worked as well. "But I think it was easier for her to hit and drive and pay attention and they relayed it to use as they should have," says Chief Deputy Randy Christian of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
The woman says she chased the men for about 4 miles before she let them go. But the OnStar technology allowed deputies to get a good location on the car.
They caught all three suspects, 21-year-old Davon McClendon, 23-year-old Brendan Richardson and 23-year-old Alonzo Brimage. Nothing had been taken from the woman's home. Officials say she reacted perfectly in this situation. "We couldn't have trained her any better. She'd make an awfully good deputy sheriff," Christian added.
