Many municipal elections held on Tuesday night

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Several local elections will be taking place on Tuesday night. Voters will be casting ballots in several key races.

In Vestavia Hills, voters have the opportunity to switch to a council-manager form of government. Vestavia Hills currently has the mayor-council form of city government where the city's executive, the mayor, is elected independently of the council. If voters approve the measure on the ballot, the city would switch to a council-manager style of government. Voters would still elect a mayor, but that mayor would be a voting member with the city council. Together, the elected leaders would hire a city manager.

In Bessemer, voters will cast ballots for a total of ten positions including a hotly contested mayor's race between six candidates.

In Mountain Brook, three city council seats are up for grabs with eight different candidates competing for the un-paid jobs.

Voters are also casting ballots in municipal elections in Gadsden, Jacksonville, and Oneonta.
