BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The city of Birmingham is still a few steps away from giving the green light to a company wanting to install red-light cameras.
American Traffic Solutions made a presentation on Wednesday at the Public Safety Committee meeting. The cameras would snap a picture of violators who run red lights in downtown Birmingham. The new technology would come at zero cost to taxpayers. Instead, violators would pay for the cameras by paying fines they receive from tickets.
It would take a constitutional amendment from the statehouse if Birmingham decides to use the technology.
