Security guard charged with attempted murder

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A security guard has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of an accused trespasser.

Birmingham police, in a statement Thursday to FOX6 News, said David Johnson, 37, of Birmingham, is charged with the attempted murder of Willie Kirksey, 46, of Birmingham.

Investigators said just before 4 a.m. Saturday, Kirksey was shot by Johnson, who was working as a security guard at the Pilot Truck Stop on Bankhead Highway. Investigators said Kirksey had been kicked off the property earlier in the night for trespassing, but returned when he was approached by the security guard. A confrontation ensued leading to the shooting.

Police said Kirksey was treated and released from the hospital and has now been charged with criminal trespassing. He was in the Birmingham city jail.

Police said Johnson was arrested and charged with attempted murder. He was being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
