BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The board of the directors for the BJCC has denied a request to extend the contract of its director.
Wednesday, the board denied a request by Jack Fields to extend his contract by six months. Last meeting, Fields submitted a letter to the board asking for a six-month extension to his contract, which ends in December.
The extension, if granted, would have taken Fields to the point where he can retire, which he said he would do.
Wednesday, board members Dennis Lathem and Kenny Clemons offered their support for Fields' request, but when Fields asked to speak, board member Bettye Fine Collins turned him down, saying it was not appropriate.
After further discussion, the board denied his request and began talk of how to fill the position.
