Suspect wanted in assault of 77-year-old woman

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Deputies are searching for a person wanted for the assault of a 77-year-old woman in Grayson Valley.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, in a statement Wednesday to FOX6 News, said deputies were called at 2:30 a.m. to an address in Grayson Valley to investigate a sexual assault of a 77-year-old woman.

Depuities said the victim, who is on oxygen, was awakened to find an unknown man standing by her bed. She told deputies the man attacked and sexually assaulted her, then took her gold and cash and left the room, threatening her not to call police. She said she waited 10 minutes and then called 911.

Investigators said the suspect broke a window in the house to gain entry and money was taken from her purse.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The suspect was not yet found.
