New outlet center brings jobs to Leeds

LEEDS, AL (WBRC) - A new outlet shopping center in Leeds is closing in on completion. It is called the "Shops at Grand River" and will be just off I-20 in Leeds.

The shopping outlet is looking to host upscale discount stores like Polo Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, Talbots, Banana Republic and many more.

On Tuesday, the Daniel Corporation announced the shopping center will be open for business in late October. It will be 330 square feet with about 60 shops on opening day.

It is expected to have a big economic impact on the community. Around 650 jobs will be filled prior to opening and it is projected to generate approximately 460 million dollars in revenue over the next 30 years.

"Mostly the revenue that it will generate in the initial phase will be for the school system, and we're excited about that," says Leeds Mayor Eric Patterson. "We're excited about some of the other taxes like business license, things like that. We do know that will be an influx of money for the city, and its money that we need, so we're excited about it."

There will be a job fair on September 17th at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center on Highway 280.
