Governor’s Tourism Conference promotes the best attractions

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) – The 2010 Governor's Conference on Tourism is set to begin on Sunday, August 15th in Montgomery.

During the events of the conference, tourism officials will unveil a new web application for smartphones and a commercial starring Taylor Hicks that is aimed at bringing tourism back to the beach.

Gubernatorial candidates Dr. Robert Bentley and Ron Sparks will be on hand for a candidates forum.

On Monday, Dr. David Bronner will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his accomplishments in the development of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The golf trail has been seen as instrumental in increasing Alabama's tourism industry from $1.8 billion a year to a whopping $9.6 billion and making Alabama on the map as a top worldwide golf destination.

Other topics for the conference will be the Gulf Coast oil crisis, promoting destinations, social media, working with the Alabama Tourism Department and maintaining museums in Alabama.

Awards will be given to several attractions at the conference on Tuesday.
