Birmingham Police graduates 38 recruits

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - They are being called the "38 Special." Thursday afternon, 38 Birmingham police officers graduated from their police academy.

Graduation ceremonies were held at Birmingham Southern College. Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper says this class has had some of the highest college scores and class scores

That is why he is calling the 38 special.

Chief Roper spoke to the officers about maintaining a high ethical standard on-duty and off-duty.

"It's not enough to go out and work. We have to work ethically. Make good decisions and treat people right and that is one thing we stress with all of our officers and especially these new recruits," Roper said.

The class started with 52.
