Pell City teen dies from car crash

PELL CITY, AL (WBRC) - A Pell City teenager has died from injuries she received in a car crash.

Carly Meeks, 17, a junior at Pell City High School, died early Thursday morning from injuries she received in a car crash Wednesday evening near Pell City.

State troopers, in a statement Thursday to FOX6 News, said the one-vehicle crash happened at approximately 7:15 p.m. Wednesday on Deer Trace Road just north of Pell City. Troopers said Meeks, who was not wearing a seat belt, was riding in a 1999 Dodge Dakota driven by a 17-year-old female from Riverside when the crash occurred.

Both teenagers were taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment. The condition of the other female was not known.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, but troopers told FOX6 News speed may have been a factor.
