Jeffco Sheriff’s deputies arrest naked man on marijuana charges

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department made an unusual arrest after coming to the aid of a naked man.

Deputies received a call from a passerby around 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning that reported a naked man standing in the road in the 2200 block of Old Springville Road. Upon arrival, they found 48-year-old Richard Baker standing in a yard and wearing only a towel.

Baker told the deputies that someone was in his house trying to rob him. He asked that the deputies search his house for the intruder. Deputies immediately noticed the smell of marijuana in the home and spotted six sandwich bags filled with marijuana. They estimate the street value of the bags to be around $800 to $1000.

Baker was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In a press release on the incident, the Sheriff's Office says: "Deputies found no signs of an intruder in the house and little sign of intelligence outside the house."
